Red Eye

red eyeHave you ever taken the red eye? If you have, then you know I am referring to any flight that leaves the western US and heads east with an 11-12am departure time. You also realize once you land and look in the mirror how it was given such a fitting label as the red eye. I had the pleasure of taking this flight two nights ago. After being in Las Vegas for a conference for five nights I was ready to come home. I missed my husband and my kids enough to forfeit a night of sleep to get home approximately 12 hours sooner than I would have with respectable departure time the next day.

Having been raised Catholic I still carry the inbed sense of guilt for many of my decisions. In this case…. I shouldn’t leave the conference early but I really want to get home as soon as I can. The red eye was the perfect solution. I didn’t skip out of my meetings and I was home in enough time to pack school lunch and drive my kids to school on Friday morning. It was the perfect solution for the conference planners, my husband and kids and it by 3:00 Friday afternoon it just about slaughtered me.

Was it worth it you might ask? Does guilt ever win? I will tell you in my case the answer is unequivocally yes. I love my job so I didn’t want to miss out on any new information and more importantly I love my family so I didn’t want to stay away any longer than I had to.

Are there events, places or people in your life that you cannot wait another minute to see? If so, what is stopping you? If you want to catch the “red eye” to see someone or something we can help. There is no reason we shouldn’t all want to race home whether it is a long established address or a new one.
